   Best known for the 4th century Roman villa site alongside the River Evenlode, North Leigh sits halfway between Witney and Woodstock. The village, a good base for touring the area, has a handsome church with wallpaintings and a fine north aisle chapel

   A small village, close to the River Thames, handy for Oxford, and south east of Witney. Tucked away off the beaten track with plenty of walks. The recently restored 14th century church, and the pub provide a village focus.
