A small village close to Burford, just over a mile further up the Windrush Valley. The village was renowned in earlier times for its stone quarries, which produced an excellent limestone used in many important buildings throughout the Thames Valley, and for the local stonemasons that learnt to work it - Sir Christopher Wren hired a Master Mason from Taynton for St Paul's Cathedral. The tall towered village church, St John The Evangelist, dates mainly to 15C and contains some fine examples of the local stonemasons' art.
