Tourism is worth an estimated £225m to the economy of West Oxfordshire each year and supports directly and indirectly the equivalent of nearly 4,000 full time jobs.
Working with the local tourism industry and numerous partners from both the public and private sectors, the role of West Oxfordshire Tourism, the tourism service of West Oxfordshire District Council, is to promote West Oxfordshire as a visitor destination, at the same time managing the effects of tourism in West Oxfordshire to maximise the positive and minimise the negative impacts generated through tourism activity.
The council has recently approved a new three year tourism strategy, which shows the council's commitment to leading and developing tourism across the district. The overall aim of this strategy is:
"To develop and promote the Oxfordshire Cotswolds as a must see visitor destination and further develop sustainable tourism in West Oxfordshire to enhance the quality of life for local people whilst encouraging visitors to come to the area, spend more, stay longer and return."
The strategy outlines the key focus areas and priorities that will enable us to increase the value of tourism to West Oxfordshire.
