Oxfordshire Cotswolds Tourism Superstar

Congratulations to Chris Green of Cotswold Wildlife Park, who has been voted the 2014 Oxfordshire Cotswolds Tourism Superstar. He received his award from James Berresford, Chief Executive of VisitEngland at the Oxfordshire Cotswolds Summer Networking Event hosted by Eynsham Hall on Tuesday 19 August.

In association with VisitEngland, the national tourist board, and the Witney Gazette, our media partner, we had been looking for an individual working in the tourism sector in West Oxfordshire, either front of house or behind the scenes, who is passionate about the Oxfordshire Cotswolds and goes above and beyond the call of duty to make the visitor experience that little bit more special: a person who is welcoming, friendly and has demonstrated a commitment to making every visitor’s trip memorable.

In July five people were shortlisted  and a public vote was held.

The Shortlist

Catherine Marray - The Macdonald Bear Hotel Catherine Marray - The Macdonald Bear Hotel
Catherine brings the best of genuine northern hospitality to the heart of Woodstock. Within her first week, regular guests at The Macdonald Bear were raving about her bubbly personality and excellent customer service. She is very young and this is her first supervisory position but she is not afraid of a challenge and looks after the entire Food & Beverage operation when the Manager is away. Her constant good mood is truly contagious and lifts everyone’s spirit in the hotel! Catherine is definitely a customer service High Achiever!
Reza Kezami - Blenheim Palace Reza Kezami - Blenheim Palace
Reza Kezami is a Visitor Services Assistant who has been working at Blenheim Palace for the past 4 years. He is a charismatic and friendly character who always has a smile for everyone, staff or visitor. Reza has a real passion for Blenheim Palace and goes above and beyond. He has taken on extra duties: helping out with cleaning the shop after shifts, taking on the challenging role of Car Park Supervisor that can see up to 11,000 visitors a day at large events. Reza is a star performer helping make every visitor's experience unforgettable and is a joy to have in the team!
Ingrid Allen - Cogges Ingrid Allen - Cogges
Ingrid is a relatively new volunteer at Cogges. Appreciating all that has gone before, she has brought a breath of fresh air. She has coordinated a group of volunteers into a sewing group that has made an entire wardrobe of dressing up clothes for the manor house covering all the ages of Cogges from Saxon times to the 1960s. She regularly helps out in the kitchen, not only making the recipes of years gone by, but also pizzas and pancakes. She always involves visiting children in the cooking process and they love her optimism, energy and enthusiasm. She also helps out with visiting groups of schoolchildren. An inspiration to us all.

Chris works on the bird section and does the daily penguin talk at 11am and 3pm. His talks amuse, delight and inform the general public about Cotswold Wildlife Park's Humboldt penguins and their plight. He is often asked questions after the talk by the public and is always happy to help. He's always there with a smile, happy to chat to the public. For Dream Night at the zoo (an evening for sick and disabled children) he even dressed in a penguin onesie much to the delight of the children.
Karen Flynn - Oxford Witney Four Pillars Hotel Karen Flynn - Oxford Witney Four Pillars Hotel
Karen has 20 years service at the hotel starting as a Room Attendant and working her way up to Head Housekeeper managing a team of 20 and overseeing the cleaning and maintenance of the hotel bedrooms and public areas.  In guest feedback about staff Karen's name crops up time and time again because of her efforts to make their stay a welcoming and enjoyable experience: a feather pillow or extra biscuits; recommending places locally; or assisting other hotel staff - Karen will always go the extra mile to ensure the guest comes first and the hotel operates efficiently and professionally.
