Woodstock, eight miles north west of Oxford is often visited for two reasons: Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, and his grave in nearby Bladon. However, Woodstock has much more to offer...
It is a fine Georgian town with a distinct Royal heritage, containing many attractive period buildings: including the 17th century Fletcher’s House, home to the excellent Oxfordshire Museum and the brand new Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum; the 18th century Town Hall; St Mary Magdalene Church with its Norman doorway, early English windows, a musical clock which plays tunes four times a day and a collection of over 200 beautiful, individual hand-embroidered kneelers.
Woodstock is renowned for its interesting selection of specialist independent shops as well as some excellent pubs and restaurants and a fine selection of accommodation in Woodstock.
Every year there are a host of events in Woodstock: some, like the Blenheim Palace Literary Festival at Woodstock, in conjunction with neighbouring Blenheim Palace, others unique to Woodstock, like the Old Woodstock Mock Mayor.
FREE PARKING - all the towns in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds have free car parking.
There are a number of Woodstock leaflets available to download:
