A Grade II* listed building, Combe Mill is the original ‘power house’ of the old Blenheim Palace Estate, a Victorian steam- and water-powered sawmill now operating as a working museum offering visitors a fascinating insight into the work that went on behind the scenes of the Blenheim Estate over the last century or so.
Visitors get a real feel for the past as they enter this authentic building, where they can talk to the volunteers operating the machinery and demonstrating lost skills, many of whom are retired engineers and craftsmen who love to reminisce. This is a ‘true black fingernail museum’, with plenty of hands-on activities to challenge and entertain all age groups. Children will enjoy following the Millie the mill cat trail.
On monthly steaming days you can see all the machines operating under steam power and there are continuous demonstrations at the forge and wood turning and other crafts upstairs in the Pattern Shop. Outside there are several examples of portable single cylinder engines operating machinery.
Refreshments are available in the riverside tea room and there is also a picnic area.
Opening times:
Wednesdays and Sundays from 10.30am to 4.30pm (10am to 5pm on event days) from 1 April to 30 September
The mill will not be in steam unless it is for one of our steaming events held on the 3rd Sunday of each month
Admission prices:
(non-event days) Adults £5, concessions/children £4 (under 5s free), familiy discount available
(event days) Adults £8, concessions/children £7 (under 5s free), family discount available
