The hamlet of Shorthampton consists of little more than a farm and the church. The church has an unusual, boxlike appearance: no tower or spire, shallow roofs and square headed windows. Inside there are a number of unusual features but what immediately catches the eye is the wall paintings. Though incomplete they form an intriguing group with the impression of tantalising scraps of narrative: rushes in rippling water, a figure holding a staff; the edge of a dragon's wing.
In contrast to the paintings in the nave, the chancel is simplicity itself: a bible on the altar and behind it a large window looking out on to fields and the sky.
