16th century Bay Tree Hotel is made up from a row of ancient houses along Sheep Street, including the Courthouse, which is now the Old Justice Room. The hotel was purchased in 1935 and opened as a country hotel where only young ladies worked, making it a very regular stop for the gentlemen of the area.
The Bay Tree Hotel, as it is today, still holds that magical ambience that it has been remembered for, for centuries. Throughout the hotel, stonewalls, flagstone floors, open log fireplaces and wooden beams create that home from home feeling. The hotel has been lovingly refurbished without changing any of the original features, and modern fabrics and antiques have been combined to create a homely country house style. A relaxed atmosphere is created by the stylish decor found throughout the hotel.
The award winning Bay Tree Restaurant overlooks the rose and herb garden, and specialises in serving local seasonal produce as well as an extensive wine list. A sophisticated atmosphere is created here by the elegant decor, where the original flagstones that lead to the impressive panel of period windows are still in place. Heavy tapestry curtains can be found draping from the ceiling and well chosen art pieces complete this room. The head chef uses only the freshest local produce in creating his cuisine and meals are complimented by a comprehensive selection of fine wines. Light lunches are also served in the country style Woolsack Bar with it's main entrance onto the street.
Wind your way up the old wooden staircase to one of the 21 individually furnished en suite bedrooms, superbly decorated in luxuriously rich fabrics creating a splendid country feel. Choose from a delightful double bedroom with original beams and fireplace; a beautiful and individual Garden Room, overlooking the walled rose and herb garden; or a spacious Master Suite with a luxurious jacuzzi en suite bathroom and a charm all of it's own.
Burford, often referred to as The Gateway to the Cotswold, is situated near Oxford and the impressive Blenheim Palace, both of which are worthwhile to visit. Sudeley Castle is also nearby and makes for an enchanting outing.
